Washington, DC, November 30, 2016 — The National Committee of Asian American Republicans (Asian.GOP) congratulates Elaine Chao on her nomination as Transportation Secretary and Nikki Haley on her nomination for U.S. Ambassador to the United States.
Elaine Chao was the former Secretary of Labor under President George W. Bush and was a former Deputy Transportation Secretary under President George H.W. Bush. She was the first Chinese American and Asian American woman to serve in a Presidential cabinet position. “Asian.GOP is pleased to see an Asian American, Secretary Elaine Chao, become selected as our new Transportation Secretary. She bring to the new administration a wealth of experience and know-how. We are confident that she will lead this country well. President-Elect Trump could not have chosen a more qualified candidate. We at Asian.GOP are eager to work with her in improving our transportation infrastructure, enhancing safety, enhancing diversity, and incorporating new technologies to keep our country moving forward,” said Cliff Li, Executive Director of Asian.GOP.
Nikki Haley is currently South Carolina’s Governor. Her parents are Sikh immigrants from Punjab, India. She became the first woman and Asian American governor in South Carolina history. Asian.GOP is pleased to see that Nikki Haley will represent the United States at the United Nations, knowing that she brings pro-family perspectives, knowledge and expertise on global and domestic security issues, and because she has been a supporter of international ties and business development in her native state.
